We were recently appointed to carry out was for a review and benchmarking of the procurement performance at an NHS Trust and to identify areas for potential improvement.
Each of the above domains contains a number of standards, including:

In order to carry out this review and ensure it aligned with the NHS Standards of Procurement methodology we implemented the following process:
- Identify & agree responsible individuals to support procurement review
- Gather data
- Review data and conduct meetings
- Review and score
Representation of the Trust’s procurement activities was assessed in five areas:
- The strategic function
- The operational function
At project close, we provided the Trust with the required next steps for each area as well as identification of areas requiring improvement. We also looked at how the Trust could improve this function within their organisation through the improvement of coordination and communication of activities, the establishment of groups and governance to support procurement as an integrated function, the establishment of a vision across the function alongside developed standardised processes and the establishment of clear roles and responsibilities for staff throughout the function.
